Tissue culture of gerunggang (<i>Cratoxylum arborescens</i> (Vahl) Blume): multipurpose native species of Indonesian peatland

Gerunggang (Cratoxylum arborescens (Vahl) Blume) is a tree native to Indonesian peatlands that has great potential as an alternative fiber-producing species for the pulp and paper industry because it adaptable does not have disrupt local ecosystems. The also contains important anti-cancer compounds pharmaceutical industry. These industries require large quantities of raw materials meet their needs, which cannot be met by supply conventional plant seedlings. Tissue culture one propagation biotechnologies can used provide more efficient germplasm. In this study, we developed protocol gerunggang using tissue technique. results showed combination 1 mg/l 6-benzylamino purine (BAP) 0.5 naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) in Murashige & Skoog media provided fastest bud break time (2 weeks before first subculture), with highest shoot initiation (3.0 ± 0.2 cm), after 4 incubation, auxiliary elongation (7.4 0.1 cm). significant effect hormone concentration increases nodule multiplication coefficient (NMC), 7.5. vitro root response on same medium good growth average length 4.8 cm. Acclimatization plantlets was successful under ex conditions resulted 2 3 months greenhouse. advantage applying method produce about seven times seedlings from explant weeks. will very useful further research field intensive comprehensive study.
